I also agree with you about the library. They have to make a profit. Besides, I never consider books "unnecessary expenditures". In fact, I'd argue that reading all summer might be the best way to spend the summer if one cannot physically leave town.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What about collaborating with local libraries? Libraries seem to be an even cheaper way to keep up with summer reading lists.
